As I drove into our subdivision today I saw some kids playing [tag]street football[/tag]. For me [tag]Thanksgiving[/tag] and football go together.
Now anyone who knows me will quickly tell you I have no idea how to play football, which teams will be in which bowl games, or who has the best players or coaches. But every year at Thanksgiving, my dad would turn on the TV and watch football. And most every year there would be somebody putting together a game of football (or “mudball”) for Thanksgiving.
Even in our current economic difficulties, we have much for which to be grateful. There may be challenges of jobs, no jobs, paying for food, not knowing how one is going to pay to feed the family, and uncertainty regarding national direction and issues. But there is no other people on earth that have the freedoms we enjoy. There is no other place on earth where we have the ability to create our futures so openly.
But even more so, to have each other is our greatest reason for thanks. Some people don’t know they have someone else, so remember to smile and say “Hi.”
Now, about those kids playing street football – I did notice one difference between them and the excellent college and professional [tag]athletes[/tag] I see. The difference is these kids were throwing to where the other player is when running a pattern, not where he will be.
And I wonder — what is your [tag]talent[/tag] doing? Are they playing street football for you? Or do you need to coach your talent to a different level of play?
One other thought — the economy will turn around — are you planning for where you are, or where you will be?
